A Speaker for a Day ~

It's sunny and a bit chilly on this Thursday afternoon. I arrive at Central Middle School with my photography backpack and laptop. With my heart racing, I take a breath and walk through the front doors. The moment was finally here.

THE MOMENT; speaking about my career at Career Day to 8th graders. I'm not going to kid you, I was nervous. Yet, very confident about the subject matter I was speaking about and with the advice I was giving to these soon-to-be high schoolers.

I'm always happy to talk to people about photography, show people work I've done, and inform them of the journey I've taken in my life so far. Speaking at a middle school, one I once went to way back in the day, was a great experience.

As these 8th graders begin their search on what courses to register for in high school, I was happy to give them some advice:

--> Keep your options open - Take as many courses as you can in high school

--> Don't limit yourself - Try new things

--> Discover Yourself - Find out what you like/dislike and enjoy/not enjoy

I remembered when I was that age. Sitting in a desk watching people present about their careers. I heard someone say, "It's not a job if you love what you do". I didn't think that was possible. How can someone love their job that much?

Well, now I can say I am living that very statement. While speaking, I was able to stand up front and tell them things I never thought I'd be able to say:

--> If you love what you do you won't work a day in your life

I honestly love photography; it is my passion. Choosing a career that makes me happy and has given me such great experiences is just amazing. I couldn't ask for more, and I can't wait to see what else the future has in store for me.

The students and staff and Central Middle School were very respectful, friendly, and helpful during this career day event. I thank them for giving me this opportunity to speak about my career as a photographer. I wish all the 8th graders luck in their journey to the big high school.
